ANKER works with three tanneries in Tuscany whose families have finished hides for longer than the house has existed. We buy full-grain leather only — the surface of the animal, uncorrected, so the bag can take on a patina rather than a costume.
Each hide is selected by hand. We look for density, for a quiet grain, for a color that will deepen rather than fade. Nothing is rushed through a drum to meet a drop date.
That is the art: not a story we tell after the fact, but the first decision in every satchel we cut.
